India vs NZ: Jayant Yadav Could Replace Ravichandran Ashwin in Kolkata Test
Team India could be forced to include uncapped all-rounder Jayant Yadav in place of Ravichandran Ashwin for the Kolkata Test against New Zealand that begins Friday, reports Deccan Chronicle.
According to the report, Ashwin is suffering from a corn in his right finger, which also troubled him during the series opener in Kanpur. He, however, didn’t make it look uncomfortable as he pulled off a 10-wicket haul to steer the hosts to a dominating 197-run win in the first Test.
“I’m not very happy with the way it has come out so far. I just hope that I can do better in the series,” Ashwin said.
Yadav was initially named in the squad in place of fast-bowler Ishant Sharma, but could well make his debut sooner if Ashwin fails to recover in time.
Meanwhile, opening batsman Gautam Gambhir, who was named as the replacement for injured KL Rahul, is also expected to make the cut to playing XI. He last played a Test in 2014.
India lead the Black Caps 1-0 in the three-match series.
