I Deserve More Chances to Prove Myself in Test Cricket: Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina caught many eyes with a fluent century on Test debut. But the subsequent outcomes have not only deteriorated his image as a Test cricketer, but have also seen him shuffle in and out of the side in the longest format of the game.

That said, the 28-year-old Uttar Pradesh lad feels that a few bad innings in his 18-Test long career have taken a toll on potential opportunities.

“It’s true that I didn’t do well in three innings in Test cricket in 2012. It was the same story in 2015, but that doesn’t mean I am not experienced enough to be in the Test side,” Raina, a regular in the limited-overs circuit, told Hindustan Times.

Having scored 768 runs in 31 innings at an ordinary average of 26.48, Raina has been time and again compelled to make way for the other players. However, he hopes to get a few chances to establish his stake as a Test cricketer.

“I have not been given enough chances to prove my caliber as a Test cricketer,” he continued. “You can’t judge a player on the basis of just one match after a hectic series. I am not asking for five Test matches to prove myself. Give me two-three games. And if I don’t perform, drop me forever.

“I am sure I have the ability to be a consistent performer at Test level, but it’s just a matter of getting the chance to do so. Before gearing up for the World T20, I will focus on my Test comeback.”
