Bangladesh confirmed their maiden quarterfinal berth at the World Cup 2015 after pulling off a surprising 15-run win over England in Adelaide on Monday, thereby eliminating the latter side from the sport’s mega event.

Earlier, Bangladesh piggybacked on a supreme knock from Mahmudullah Riyad (103) and a quick-fire 77-ball 89 from Mushfiqur Rahim to put up a healthy total of 275-7 in 50 overs.

In a must-win situation to fancy their odds of getting through to the knockouts, England batsmen showed lack of application and maturity as they were bundled out for 260 runs in the 49th over itself, paving their way out of the tournament.

For Bangladesh, fast-bowler Rubel Hossain was the wrecker-in-chief with a four-wicket haul, while Taskin Ahmed and Mashrafe Mortaza also chipped in with a brace apiece.

By the virtue of this triumph, Bangladesh have qualified for the last-eight stage for the first time, where they are likely to lock horns with defending champions India.

As for England, they will look forward to salvaging pride in their ultimate encounter against Afghanistan later this week.
