Central Districts beat Canterbury at Napier

Central Districts is one of the top franchise team in Plunket Shield 2017/18 and started the season with heavy confidence. They are now playing the 3rd match in round nine competition against Canterbury. In the match, Central Districts beat Canterbury at Napier. It was a great fact for Central Districts and they have still one match in hand.

On the other hand, Canterbury is also one of the six franchise team in Plunket Shield 2017/18 season and they also won several titles of the tournament earlier. It was a bad luck of Canterbury that considering their last two matches excluding against Central Districts, they failed to win any of them but two matches ended with draw.

Now, in the 89th season of Plunket Shield, Central Districts are ahead of most of the team to the title.

In 25th March, 2018 the 3rd match of round nine started. At the same day total three matches started and total six teams took part there. At McLean Park in Napier the 3rd match was executed between Central and Canterbury.

Earlier in the match, Central Districts won the toss and decided to bat first. For Canterbury Jeff Case made his first class debut through the match. So, deciding to bat Central Districts started their inning for good. In 12 runs one wicket was gone and this time Worker was gone with 6 runs so far. Hay and Smith made the 2nd partnership for Central Districts. Their partnership lasts long and added almost 90 runs to the scoreboard. Hay was gone first with 70 runs innings. Later, Smith and captain Young played together. Smith scored 49 runs and captain scored 74 runs so far. Bruce and Cleaver also played well where Bruce remained not out till the last with his 78 runs innings.  Cleaver also scored 46 runs so far. Finally by losing seven wickets Central Districts declared the innings. They scored 360 runs in 107 overs. Woerkom took three wickets and Jamieson took two wickets for Canterbury in the match.

Later, Canterbury came to bat for the first innings. Just four players did cross two figure runs where Bowes scored 18, Davidson scored 25, Case scored 20 and Hazeldine scored 15 runs so far. Rest five players failed to open their run account in the match. In 97 runs they got packet where Tickner took five wickets and Rance took three wickets for the team Central Districts.

In the 2nd innings, they played a bit well but could not take lead of the game. Scoring 205 runs they lost all wickets and so, Central Districts won by an innings and 58 runs against Canterbury.
