New Zealand skipper, Brendon McCullum, has backed his team to gainsay their odds and fight their way to make merry at the World Cup 2015, which will be co-hosted by the islanders along with Australia from February 14 Down Under.

New Zealand have exhibited some resilient performances in the recent past, the highlights of which being their 2-0 whitewash of Pakistan and 4-2 drubbing of Sri Lanka, both in home conditions.

“We’ve still got a long way to go as a team, but we’ve made some significant strides in the last few months especially, and we’re starting to achieve some special things,” McCullum was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

He continued: “It would be great if we could swallow a World Cup along the way. We know what is going to give us our greatest chance towards success and we go about doing that. And the personnel within that group is as good as what I’ve been involved in.”
