The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have taken a audacious decision by sacking Alastair Cook as their captain for the One-Day Internationals (ODI), and eventually, has been left out of England’s provisional World Cup squad.

The decision came just days after England’s series loss to Sri Lanka in the recently concluded ODI series. His captaincy had come under the scanner after his side’s series whitewash to India at home.

“I am gutted to be left out of the World Cup squad and it is likely to take me a while to get over the disappointment,” CricBuzz quoted a grief-stricken Cook as saying.

“That said, I wish Peter (Moores, Coach), Eoin and the lads all the best for the World Cup,” he added. “I would also like to thank all the players and fans who have supported me during my time as ODI captain.”

Flamboyant batsman, Eoin Morgan, has been named as the new skipper of the side, who will lead England into the next month’s triangular series against Australia and India Down Under, before the World Cup 2015.
