A lot of people consider Ryan Garcia to be a future star. On Thursday, he proved just why.
The 19-year-old American put on a supreme display of boxing to knock Fernando Vergas out in the first round of their scheduled 10-round bout in Indio, California.
Garcia improved to 14-0-0 (13 KOs) while his Mexican nemesis worsened to 32-14-3 (21 KOs).
This was certainly one of Garcia’s best performances, given the way he earned the victory.
Towards the end of the opening round, Garcia hurt Vargas with a pin-point combination. He followed it up with a left-right hook combination, sending his opponent to canvas in dramatic fashion.
And at 2:55, it was all over. Vargas had been knocked out in the first round for the first time in hi 12-year-long professional career.
