Czech tennis player Lucie Safarova has parted ways with coach Rob Steckley after working together for about three-and-a-half years. The 29-year-old will now join hands with Frantisek Cermak on a trial basis.

Cermak, a former doubles-specialist, recently ended his coaching stint with two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, and was spotted cheering for Safarova at the Wuhan Open on Monday.

Safarova, who lost 6-3 7-5 to No. 5 seed Karolina Pliskova, later corroborated upon the changes in her coaching team. “I ended the collaboration with Rob and [hired] Frantisek on a trial period,” she said.

Meanwhile, she is still alive in the tournament in the doubles event alongside American partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands. Seeded fifth, the duo enjoyed a mid-match walkover from wildcards Simona Halep and Jelena Ostapenko in the first round.

Moving on, they are scheduled to meet another wildcard pairing of China’s Xinyun Han and Lin Zhu in the quarter-finals.
