After missing practice on Wednesday and Thursday while dealing with post-concussion symptoms stemming from a hit by Cincinnati linebacker Vontaze Burfict, Carolina Panthers star rookie Kelvin Benjamin has been listed as questionable for the team’s Week 7 contest at Green Bay.

Benjamin returned to practice full today (Fri., October 17, 2014), but must be cleared by an independent medical physician before playing. For his part, Panthers head coach Ron Rivera told the Charlotte Observer that Benjamin looked effective in practice, although the final decision is not up to him:

“He did a nice job with it, but again I’m not the one judging it. Now he looked good on the field. I thought he practiced well. He looked sharp. I really don’t think he had a (mental error). He did all of his assignments that he was supposed to do. He took a lot of reps today, which I understand is part of the protocol is to have him go out and practice and see how he does and then evaluate later. My understanding is that would be tomorrow, as far as to see how he is.”

Benjamin is slated to be re-evaluated on Saturday, but if he can’t go against the Packers, it would be a sizeable blow to their offensive capabilities. Green Bay’s top two cornerbacks are currently dealing with injuries, and it’s hard to imagine that their backups could contain the towering first-round talent.

He currently ranks at the tenth-best receiver in fantasy football, no small feat considering his relative inexperience. With Panthers quarterback Cam Newton finally getting back to form, Carolina can’t afford to lose any more key cogs.

Green Bay’s offense is currently clicking on all cylinders, meaning that Carolina will need all the firepower they can get.
