Kings XI Punjab’s campaign at the Indian Premier League all but ended after they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders by seven wickets in Mohali on Friday night.

However, there was a moment of brilliance that the hosts produced through batsman Mandeep Singh.

In the 15th over of the first innings, Mandeep Singh hit a stunning six of leg-spinner Piyush Chawla… and commentators couldn’t keep calm over it.

Rocking back to a short-ish googly from Chawla, Mandeep nonchalantly swung his bat. The ball travelled straight over the bowler’s head for a six.

“Well, that’s a top shot, you know,” an on-air commentator said. “That’s an unbelievable shot from Mandeep Singh.

“Such strength of the back foot to get that straight over the bowler’s head, and all the way for six too.”

Another one corroborated, saying: “That was not that bad a ball.”

Meanwhile, Punjab rode on Sam Curran’s unbeaten 24-ball 55 to amass 183-6 in 20 overs. It turned out to be an easy chase for Kolkata though as Shubman Gill’s 65 not out helped them get over the line in just 18 overs.

Kolkata now need to win their final match, against Mumbai Indians on Sunday, to strengthen their chances of making it to the playoffs.
