Brazilian Teliana Pereira arguably pulled off the biggest win of her career after upsetting World No. 27 Elina Svitolina of Ukraine in the semifinal of the WTA International Claro Open Colsanitas in Bogota on Saturday.

Pereira, currently ranked 130th in the world rankings, scored a dominating 7-6 6-3 conquest over the top seed of the tournament to become the first Brazilian to reach the finals of any WTA event in 27 years.

“I feel great,” the 26-year-old Curitiba-resident told the official WTA website after her breakthrough win. “Svitolina is a great player and it was a really tough match.

“I just tried to play my best and enjoy the moment – it was my third WTA semifinal and it was my best one.”

Up next, Pereira is scheduled to cross the swords with No. 5 seed Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan, who overcome a stiff fight from Colombian Mariana Duque-Marino (6-4 3-6 6-4) in the other semifinal battle.

The Sunday’s title-clash will be the first ever meeting between the two on the women’s tour.
