Not that he’s not known for it, but Gael Monfils nailed an incredible no-look passing shot against fellow Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the first round of Gerry Weber Open in Halle.

It happened during the fourth game of the second set, when Herbert lobbed one over Monfils, who was waiting at the net. Even as the latter ran back in an attempt to return, the ball looked destined to hit the turf, only for him to to do what nobody saw coming.

No wonder, Monfils himself was surprised as the crowd cheered on. Even Herbert appreciated the shot, a gesture well received by the former.

It was Herbert, however, who had the last laugh as he went on to pull off a 7-6 6-4 win over Monfils, who has won just one match in the Wimbledon tune-up events so far.

As for Herbert, he is next scheduled to lock horns with either Ukrainian qualifier Sergiy Stakhovsky or German wildcard Rudolf Molleker for a place in the quarter-finals.
