In the latest women’s singles rankings released by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) on Monday, tennis’ most talked-about girls – Eugenie Bouchard and Maria Sharapova – took a plunge in their respective rankings after a substandard outing at the recently-concluded French Open 2015.

Sharapova, the 2014 champion, failed to defend her title this time around (lost to Lucie Safarova in the quarterfinals). Consequently, the Russian giant dropped a couple of places to No. 4 in the list.

Canadian star Bouchard has been arguably going through the roughest patch of her career. Surprisingly, she has managed to win just one match off her nine previous encounters, which includes a first-round egress from the French Open. As a result of her appalling run, Bouchard dropped 5 places to 11th position.

Serena Retains Top Spot; Kvitova, Ivanovic Rise

Meanwhile, Serena Williams’ 20th Grand Slam crown in Paris ensured that she extends her lead at the crest of rankings, even as Czech Republic’s Petra Kvitova and Ana Ivanovic of Serbia soared up the list after fine performances here.

Whilst Kvitova’s pre-quarterfinal appearance helped her rise to No. 2, Ivanovic’s semifinal show boosted her to No. 6 in the list.

The other players completing the top 10 include – Simona Halep (No. 3), Caroline Wozniacki (5), Lucie Safarova (7), Ekaterina Makarova (8), Carla Suarez Navarro (9), and Angelique Kerber (10).
