WTA Bogota: Top Seed Elina Svitolina Saunters into Semi-Final

Top seed Elina Svitolina continued her imposing form at the WTA International Claro Open Colsanitas in Bogota after going through to the semifinals. The Ukrainian brushed aside 8th seed Irina Falconi of America 6-3 7-5 in the last-eight stage on Friday.

Svitolina, 20, served four aces, won a dominating 74 percent of her first-serve points, and converted 80 percent of the break points on her opponents serve to cruise for a straight-set triumph in one hour and 20 minutes.

However, it was the end of the road for 2nd-seeded Puerto Rican Monica Puig, as she went down fighting to No. 5 seed Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan. The latter pulled off a 7-6 6-2 conquest of her higher-ranked counterpart to clinch her third straight win in as many encounters between the two.

In the other quarterfinal match up, Brazilian Teliana Pereira continued her dream run at the tournament, following a 6-0 6-4 beating of Spain’s Lourdes Dominguez Lino.
