Coming from India, where tennis was considered to be a ‘David’ in front of Cricket or ‘Goliath’, not many would have thought that a girl can go on to become the best doubles player in the world one day. The feat in her kitty now, Sania Mirza has become an inspiration for many.

“It’s great if it can inspire not just people in India and Pakistan but hopefully girls can pick up tennis racquets in the whole subcontinent, really think that sports can be a career option,” Reuters quoted Mirza, who got hitched off to Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik five years back.

The Indian trailblazer has achieved almost everything in her impressive career. Be it the No. 1 ranking, or Grand Slam titles in mixed doubles. But Mirza, who is yet to clinch her first women’s doubles major, has set her eyes upon captivating the elusive crown in the near future.

“It would be great to try and get records on how long I stay there and definitely try and win a women’s doubles grand slam which has not happened,” he added further.

Mirza is currently featuring at the Mutua Madrid Open, where she has joined hands with Swiss ace Martina Hingis, and the duo is already through to the last-eight stage.
