There’s been a lot of hullabaloo around the Nick Kyrgios controversy that rocked the tennis world last week, after the Australian faced severe criticism for firing indecent comments at Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka during the duo’s match-up.

However, Wawrinka won’t let the controversy affect his preparations for the prestigious US Open by any means.

“I know how myself, I know how I get ready for a Grand Slam. I know how I deal with everything. I’m sure I’m going to be ready for US Open,” The West Australian quoted Wawrinka, who is tuning up at the Cincinnati Masters for the season’s Grand Slam swansong.

The 5th-ranked Wawrinka somewhat shrugged off the contentious matter to progress through to the third round in Cincinnati. The passage, however, wasn’t trouble-free for the Swiss rallied from the brink of defeat to pull off a 3-6 7-6 6-3 victory over Borna Coric.

“For sure I was struggling today to be completely on the court and to fight the way I wanted,” he admitted. “It’s been some tough days for some people, and it’s always difficult to completely focus on the tennis court.”

Up next, the fifth-seeded Wawrinka is scheduled to cross the swords with Croatia’s Ivo Karlovic for a place in the last-eight stage of the tournament here.
