Rafael Nadal has now won 42 consecutive sets on clay, thanks to his 6-0 7-5 win over Slovakia’s Martin Klizan in the quarter-finals of the Barcelona Open on Friday.

However, the Spaniard almost had his streak halted due to a bizarre reason.

After giving nothing away in the opening set, Nadal took off for a bathroom break. When he returned though, the momentum started to swing away.

The No. 1 seed got broken immediately as Klizan consolidated the lead until the 10th game, reports Express.co.uk.

Nadal just about dragged things back in time to break his opponent’s serve twice to seal the set 7-5.

“I went to the bathroom and maybe I lost the timing,” the 31-year-old was quoted as saying.

He added: “It’s the hardest set I’ve had since I came back from the injury. It has been overcome, and it is great news because it also has to go through these moments.”

Nadal will look to continue his winning run when he squares off against Belgium’s David Goffin in the semi-finals on Saturday.
