Controversy erupted during the Istanbul Cup second-round match between Sorana Cirstea and Barbora Strycova on Wednesday over an arguable call by chair umpire.

During the second game of the third set, a Cirstea serve was adjudged wide by the umpire. The Romanian, however, wasn’t happy with the decision as she reckoned it was an ace.

The duo got into an animated discussion, with Cirstea reportedly saying: “Are you crazy? Are you blind?” No wonder, she was handed a code of violation.

Cirstea, a former French Oepn quarter-finalist, never recovered from that as she went on to lose 6-2 1-6 6-3 in an intense battle that lasted two hours and 12 minutes.

Not that that was it. At the end of the contest, Cirstea didn’t mind not shaking hands with the umpire (see the video below).

As for Strycova, she is scheduled to lock horns with Elena Rybakina in the quarter-finals on Friday.
