It was the battle of Sousas at the Estoril Open as Pedro Sousa took on Joao Sousa in the second round on Wednesday.

Pedro, the world No. 143, put up a brave fight against the 68th-ranked Joao but eventually lost 4-6 7-6 7-5 to his fancied Portugal teammate.

Apart from his gutsy display, there was one more thing about Pedro that caught the eyes.

During the second game of the second set, Pedro lost his racket in an attempt to unleash a forehand return (see video below).

This is not the first something like this has happened on court.

In 2014, Kei Nishikori, too, had lost his racket while attempting a backhand volley against Roger Federer at Sony Open.

Joao, meanwhile, is scheduled to lock horns with Britain’s Kyle Edmund for a place in the semi-finals.
