Serena Williams won many a heart with not just her sizzling performance on court, but for another reason as well.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion was at her best, pulling off an easy 6-2 6-1 win over Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine in the third round of the Australian Open.

The American served eight aces, won 85 per cent of the points on her first serve and held her serve throughout to emerge victorious in one hour and seven minutes.

Having been schooled by Williams, her 18-year-old opponent was reduced to tears at the end of the contest.

And after the handshake, Williams went up to Yastremska and consoled her, saying: “You did amazing. You did so well. You did amazing. Don’t cry. You did really well.”

For Yastremska, this was her finest result at any Grand Slam, with her previous best being a first-round appearance at the US Open last year.
