Novak Djokovic won a record-equaling 33rd ATP Masters title after he defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3 6-4 in the Madrid Open final on Sunday.

The world No. 1 joined Rafael Nadal at the top of the list, with 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer coming next with 28 Masters victories.

At the end of the event, Djokovic bumped into the legendary football duo of Luis Figo and Clarence Seedorf, who were among the crowd earlier in the evening.

No wonder, they shared a warm embrace with the Serb before engaging in conversation.

While Seedorf appeared to be praising Djokovic’s agility, the latter responded saying: “I don’t think anybody has your legs.”

Earlier, Djokovic won 78 per cent of the points on his first serve (Tsitsipas won 61) while consolidating his serve through the game to emerge victorious after one hour and 32 minutes.

“I’m very pleased. I was saying after yesterday’s semi-final win that it was a very, very important win for me for my confidence,” Djokovic was later quoted as saying.

“I wasn’t playing my best tennis after Australia so I was looking to regain the momentum this week. I started off well. I didn’t drop a set the entire tournament, so I’m very pleased.

“I played some of my best tennis here.”

Djokovic will look to continue his rich vein of form ahead of the French Open as he now heads of to Rome for the Italian Open.
