Nick Kyrgios’s preparations for the US Open hit early roadblock as he pulled out of the Atlanta Open on Friday.

52 minutes into his quarter-final match against Britain’s Cameron Norrie, the second-seeded Australian was down 5-7 0-3 when he retired hurt due to some issue with his hip.

Kyrgios, who appeared work-shy at times during the match, was later booed off the court.

Norrie, however, was not amused by the crowd’s gesture. “I really feel for the guy,” he was quoted as saying.

“He’s so talented. Who knows what he could do in tennis if he was healthy.”

Norrie, meanwhile, will look to continue bid of winning his first ATP singles title when he takes on local hope Ryan Harrison in the semi-finals on Sunday.

This will be the first meeting between the duo.
