A day after rallying from 1-5 down in the third set to upset 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams, Karolina Pliskova crashed out in the semi-finals of the Australian Open.

The Czech No. 1 went down 2-6 6-4 4-6 to reigning US Open champion Naomi Osaka of Japan on a scorching Thursday morning where the temperatures flirted around 42 degree celsius.

Osaka served 15 aces, won 81 per cent of the points on her first serve, broke her opponent’s serve on four occasions to enter the final, where she will face another Czech in Petra Kvitova.

Although Pliskova couldn’t really break Osaka down, she did manage to break the net camera… courtesy a miscued forehand return.

Bam! It was a total loss.

This wasn’t the first time to have happened at this year’s opening Grand Slam though.

Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina had partially damaged the lens after her landed nowhere but the net camera (see video below).
