Juan Martin del Potro cruised into the quarter-finals of the Italian Open after pulling off a 6-4 6-4 win over Casper Ruud of Norway on Thursday.

The Argentine tennis player, playing just his third tournament this season, looked the dominant player throughout the battle that lasted one hour and 35 minutes.

Apart from serving eight aces, del Potro won 79 per cent of the points on his first serve, broke his opponent on three occasions en route the triumph.

Apart from his on-court performance, del Potro won hearts by helping out a ball girl struggling to collect a ball from the fence.

No wonder, he’s known as tennis’ good boy.

Del Potro, the No. 7 seed, however, crashed out in the last eight stage after going down 6-4 6-7 4-6 to world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in a humdinger of a contest.
