Novak Djokovic and Fabio Fognini had their campaign at the Indian Wells Masters ended after they lost 6-7 6-2 10-6 to 6th seeds Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo in the semi-finals on Friday.

They didn’t go down without pulling off a spectacular point though.

During the third game of the second set, Fognini ran outside the left tramline to hit a down-the-line winner.

No wonder, it called for a chestbump between him and partner Novak Djokovic (see video below).

Irrespective of the defeat, it was a memorable debut for the Serbian-Italian combination.

The upset some formidable pairings like Jeremy Chardy/Milos Raonic, Rohan Bopanna/Denis Shapovalov and Jean-Julien Roger/Horia Tecau en route to the last-four stage.

As for Kubot and Melo, they are scheduled to meet Nikola Mektic and Horacio Zeballos in the final.

“I think the fact we played together for a long time, this makes a difference. We know against these guys we had to play to win,” Melo was quoted as saying by ATP World Tour.

“I think we were aggressive, how we should be, in important moments. We do what we have to do and most of the time for us, it pays off.

“I’m very happy with this, so let’s go forward for tomorrow to the finals. We’re really looking forward to this one.”
