Alexander Zverev may be the top seed at this week’s ATP 500 Erste Bank Open in Vienna, Austria. But, by no means, had he had the easiest of starts.

After being stretched to the wire by Viktor Troicki in the first round, the German tennis star was made to dig deep again, this time by Gilles Simon in second round.

Zverev, the world No. 5, rallied from deficit in both sets to register a hard-fought 7-6(6) 6-4 to extend his unblemished head-to-head record against Simon by 4-0.

That was not the only blip in his victory, though. Zverev found himself on the verge of disqualification after tossing his racquet in the air.

On realizing that it was headed towards a lineman, he rushed his way to catch it midair, thereby surviving a mid-match exit from the tournament.

Meanwhile, Zverev is scheduled to square off against either 8th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga or the in-form Damir Dzumhur in the quarter-finals on Friday.
