Former tennis player Wally Masur has tipped current World No. 1 Novak Djokovic to emerge victorious at the prestigious Roland Garros 2016 that begins next week. This is the only Grand Slam tournament that eludes the Serb’s resume.

Djokovic, 28, has reached closer to winning the crown thrice by making the summit clash, but has been denied a title on all three occasions. But, Masur believes that the 11-time Grand Slam champion deserves a triumph this time around.

“This is the one slam Novak hasn’t won and he would be my favourite,” Masur wrote in his column for Fox Sports. “I think he deserves to get a French Open but he’s got to go out there and win it. I would say Novak would be my favourite.”

Opining on Djokovic’s challengers, he named 10-time champion Rafael Nadal, World No. 2 Andy Murray, and defending champion Stanislas Wawrinka as the other favorites; and predicted Kei Nishikori and Nick Kyrgios to case upsets in the draw.

“Then you’d say Nadal – who has enjoyed a bit of a renaissance this clay court season – and then defending champion Stan Wawrinka and Andy Murray. But not far behind them, the people who can maybe spring those upsets are Kyrgios and Nishikori.”
