French tennis player Nicolas Mahut has been accused of faking injury after suffering a nasty fall during a doubles match at the ATP Finals on Monday.

Playing alongside compatriot Pierre Hugues-Herbert against the Croat-Austrian combination of Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic, Mahut crashed on to an advertising board (of his sponsor Lacoste) in an attempt to return a ball after running backwards.

Eventually, Mahut lost his balance and fell on to the ground, seemingly in pain. His opponent, however, was unhappy with the brief interruption in play.

“I don’t know if he felt such pain. To me, he seemed to be well, honestly. At times it seemed like he was pretending to act,” Pavic was quoted as saying by bolamarela.pt.

Pavic and Marach went on to prevail 6-4 7-6 over Mahut and Herbert.

A similar incident had happened at the 2016 Barcelona Open when a ball boy had his head banged against the advertisement wall (see video below).
