Serbian tennis player Janko Tipsarevic was at the centre of limelight at the Shenzhen Open on Wednesday as he embroiled himself in a controversy during his second-round match against Frenchman Benoit Paire.

It all unfolded early in the third set, when a linesman apparently called a Paire serve out but later denied calling it wide. Visibly upset, Tipsarevic approached the linesman, repeatedly yelling, “You said something?”

The linesman presumably didn’t understand what Tipsarevic said, calling for the chair umpire to intervene. Things further spiced up when Tipsarevic touched the umpire, who was seen instructing the linesman.

Tipsarevic, however, didn’t let the controversy affect his performance as he rallied from the brink of defeat to pull off a thrilling 6-0 6-7 7-5 conquest of Paire. He next meets Tunisian Malek Jaziri in the quarter-finals.
