Rafael Nadal got his campaign under way with a clinical 6-3 6-3 win over Mischa Zverev of Germany in the first round of the ATP Mexican Open on Wednesday.

The Spanish ace won an incredible 85 per cent of the points on his second serve as he dictated the terms from the baseline en route to winning in one hour and 20 minutes.

And at 4-1 in the first set, Nadal produced a moment of brilliance as he appeared to have hit a one-handed backhand (although one may argue it was a slice).

Roger Federer, did you see that?

Meanwhile, Nadal has a tough opponent in Australia’s Nick Kyrgios next. The duo has faced each other five times in the past, with the former having won thrice.

“This tournament is hard and there’s a lot of great players, so these kinds of matches can happen in the early stages,” the 16-time Grand Slam winner told ATP World Tour.

“Nick is one of the most talented players on tour. It’s a big challenge for me and I hope to be ready for it.”

Kyrgios had beaten Italy’s Andreas Seppi 6-3 7-5 in Round 1.
