Noah Rubin had an almost flawless day in the office as he upset fellow American John Isner in the second round of the Citi Open in Washington in the wee hours of Friday.

However, the 22-year-old had to deal with a footwear malfunction during his 100-minute victory.

During the fifth game of the second set, Rubin had to give up on his quest of galloping to the net to return a dropshot after his right shoe broke midway through the rally, much to the amusement of Isner and the spectators.

Rubin, however, found a cool way to shrug it off as he threw it the stands even as Isner continued to fall about. He then headed back to the locker room to get himself a new pair.

The little interruption failed to break Rubin’s momentum as he went on to clinch a surprise 6-4 7-6 (6) win over the No. 2 seed.

He is next scheduled to take on Andrey Rublev of Russia for a place in the quarter-finals.
