Vasek Pospisil continued his dream run at the Hopman Cup, as he steered Canada to a 2-1 conquest of Italy at the Perth Arena on Thursday.

Pospisil rode on his purple patch to pull off a third win on the trot, defeating Italian Fabio Fognini 6-0, 6-3 in the men’s singles rubber.

Later, Eugenie Bouchard cruised for a serene 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Flavia Pennetta to help Canada take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the match-up.

Commenting on her win, Bouchard said: “Each game was kind of like a battle and I’m happy I was able to keep my serve in the second set. She was really putting pressure on me.”

The Italians, however, managed to salvage pride by winning the mixed doubles encounter 3-6, 6-3, 10-7 against their Canadian counterparts.

Later in the day, Czech Republic meet the United States of America.
