Unwell Rafael Nadal postpones Madrid press conference again

Rafael Nadal run-up to the French Open hasn’t been ideal… at least, thus far.

The ‘King of Clay’ has failed to win any of the two events played on his favourite surface this season. First, he won three matches before being knocked out by Fabio Fognini in the semi-finals of Monte Carlo masters. Then, he crashed out at the same stage in Barcelona Open after going down to Dominic Thiem.

Now, ahead of his third clay tournament – the Mutua Madrid Open – he’s apparently fighting a stomach bug.

According to journalist Reem Abulleil, Nadal’s pre-tournament press conference was scheduled to be held on May 5 before being postponed for the next day due to him being unwell.

However, it has now further been pushed back, implying he’s yet to fully recover, even as he was seen at a restaurant on Monday.

Nadal, who has a bye in the first round, is scheduled to cross the swords with 18-year-old Canadian Felix Auger Aliassime on Wednesday.

The French Open will get under way on May 26
