A win-loss record of 8-6 in the season so far is not what justifies the caliber of a World No. 7. And so, Eugenie Bouchard certainly needs to work harder on her skills to improvise her form.

Being the top seed at this week’s Family Circle Cup in Charleston, Bouchard was a positive favorite at the tournament. However, the 21-year-old Canadian was upset in the second round itself, losing to 66th-ranked American Lauren Davis on Wednesday.

Relishing her maiden triumph over her fancied counterpart, Davis said: “I’d never beaten her before, so I came out knowing I had nothing to lose. I knew to beat her I’d have to be fearless. I saw this as a great opportunity.”

Meanwhile, the upset bug continued to trap the other seeds including 9th seed Samantha Stosur, 12th seed Belinda Bencic and American journeywoman Sloane Stephens in the other second round match ups.
