Former world number five Tommy Robredo has set his eyes upon making a comeback at this year’s US Open as he continues to recover from a foot surgery.

The 34-year-old Spaniard had lost three matches in a row earlier this year due to issues with his foot, which prompted him to go under the knife. His last match came against the top-ranked Novak Djokovic in Dubai.

“I feel like trying again,” Robredo was quoted by “(The aim is to be) able to be ready for the US Open,” continued the seven-time Grand Slam quarter-finalist.

Asked about his plans to return to competitive tennis, Robredo said: “If I had no intention to play tennis, I wouldn’t have undergone the surgery.

“What I am trying to streamline the operation to return to the track, enjoy again and last as long as possible.”

The US Open is scheduled to be held from August 23 to September 11 at the well-known Flushing Meadows.
