Canadian tennis player Denis Shapovalov lost his backpack upon arriving in Paris for the French Open that commences later this month.

Shapovalov hadn’t arrived in the French captain until Friday as he was in Lyon, where he lost in the second round to Benoit Paire.

In a statement released on his official Twitter handle, the 23-year-old wrote: “Absolutely terrible experience in Paris at the Hotel Novotel La Defense. As I am checking in inside the lobby my backpack gets stolen.

“The security did absolutely nothing to stop this and the hotel was not helpful at all. It took half a day just to get footage of who stole my bag (which obviously has not been recovered).

“On top of that, my team was provided with the wrong rooms after confirming otherwise. Disappointed overall. This is a PSA so hopefully no one else will have the same experience we had, but I won’t be booking here again.”

Captioning the post, Shapovalov wrote: “Not one to normally do this, but this was an awful experience at Novotel Paris La Defense.”

Shapovalov is scheduled to face Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff in the first round.
