Top seed Stanislas Wawrinka successfully defended his crown at the Aircel Chennai Open after the Swiss star ended Slovenian qualifier Aljaz Bedene’s dream run at the tournament in Sunday’s final.

29-year-old Wawrinka needed just 70 minutes to get the better of 156th-ranked Bedene to pull off a straight-set 6-3, 6-4 win at the SDAT Tennis Stadium.

“It’s an amazing atmosphere,” a thrilled Wawrinka was quoted as saying by the ATP World Tour. “It’s one of the reasons I come back every year. It was a great final. I’m really happy with my level.”

By the virtue of this victory, Wawrinka took a delivery of $73,400 as prize money and 250 ATP ranking points.

Top seeds Leander Paes/Raven Klaasen suffered a stunning loss in the title-clash of the men’s doubles event, following their 3-6, 6-7 defeat from the hands of Yen-Hsun Lu/Jonathan Marray.

Paes/Klaasen now move on to Auckland for another ATP 250 event, ahead of Australian Open 2015.
