India’s ace doubles tennis player Leander Paes has admitted that the upcoming Davis Cup World Group playoff against Spain is going to be a mountainous task.

“It’s going to be a tough tie,” Paes told as he aims to better Nicola Pietrangeli’s record of most doubles wins in the premier team event.

While Spain will be fielding their strongest line-up that comprises of World No. 5 Rafael Nadal and No. 13 David Ferrer for the singles rubbers, the Indian challenge will be headed by No. 143 Saketh Myneni and No. 202 Ramkumar Ramanathan.

The 43-year-old, therefore, insists that the dearth of singles specialist could work against the hosts.

“We need some singles guys coming through,” added Paes, who will be teaming up with countryman Rohan Bopanna for the doubles rubber against the Spanish duo of Marc Lopez and Feliciano Lopez.

The match-up is scheduled to run from September 16-18 at the R.K. Khanna Tennis Stadium in New Delhi. The winner of the tie will advance to the 16-team World Group.
