Romanian Simona Halep gave justice to her seeding as she clinched the WTA Shenzhen Open crown in China at the Longgang Tennis Centre on Saturday.

Halep, 23, needed just over an hour to brush aside Switzerland’s Timea Bacsinszky 6-2, 6-2 in the title-clash.

The Constanta-resident looked lethal with the racquet as she converted 83 per cent of her first-serve points and broke her 47th-ranked counterpart four times en route her straight-set triumph.

“I wasn’t feeling very well before the match – I was a little bit sick – so I told myself I have nothing to lose, just go on court, be relaxed, stay focused and fight for every point,” quoted Halep as saying.

“It worked, and I felt really relaxed today,” she added further. “I’m happy I could play better day by day and match by match here. I’m looking forward to playing like today in the next tournament, maybe even better.”

Meanwhile, Lyudmyla Kichenok and Nadiia Kichenok won the doubles title her, following a 6-4, 7-6 conquest of Chen Liang and Yafan Wang in the finals.
