A brilliant season so far aided World No. 1 Serena Williams’ quest of qualifying for the season-ending Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Finals to be held in Singapore later this year. She became the first woman to cement her spot in the coveted list.

Williams, the 3-time defending champion and a 5-time winner on the whole, has 5885 points in her kitty as she holds on to the top spot in the ‘Road to Singapore’. The American powerhouse is followed by Romanian Simona Halep (3715) and Russia’s Maria Sharapova (3541) in the chart.

“Serena is once again inspiring our fans with another historic season and I congratulate her on becoming the first player to secure her place (in WTA Finals),” WTA Chairman and CEO Stacey Allaster was quoted as saying by

“I am thrilled for our fans in Singapore that they will have an opportunity to watch one of the greatest players to ever play women’s tennis,” she added.

The 33-year-old Williams has been in spectacular form this year, owing to a dominating 37-5 win-loss record that includes two Grand Slam triumphs – Australian Open and French Open.

This will be Williams’ 10th overall appearance at the prestigious tournament.
