A stunning performance from local hope Sam Querrey electrified the spectators at the US Men’s Clay Courts Championship on Friday, after the 8th seed toppled tournament favorite Feliciano Lopez in straight sets to reach the semifinals.

Querrey improved his win-loss record against Lopez to 3-6, following his 6-4 6-1 conquest of the top-seeded Spaniard in the quarterfinal encounter that lasted for just over an hour on center court.

Next up, Querrey is scheduled to lock fists with another Spaniard in 6th seed Fernando Verdasco, who made short work of 79th-ranked Teymuraz Gabashvili 6-2 6-3 in the other quarterfinal outing.

3rd seed Kevin Anderson pulled off the battle of nerves, edging past 7th seed Jeremy Chardy of France to eventually win a grueling 7-5 6-7 7-6 combat that went on for over 3 hours.

Moving on, he is slated to meet American Jack Sock, who took out No. 5 seed Santiago Giraldo.
