Tennis players Roger Federer and Marin Cilic had contrasting fates in the latest men’s singles rankings announced by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) on Monday.

Federer, who ended his season prematurely owing to a knee injury, dropped a ladder to No. 4, swapping the position with fellow Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka, who got back to his career-best ranking of No. 3.

Cilic, on the other hand, reclaimed a place in the top 10 following his maiden Masters triumph in Cincinnati this week. The Croat, who had peaked to a career-high No. 8 after winning the prestigious US Open title in 2014, jumped five spots to be placed No. 9 in the world.

Elsewhere, Grigor Dimitrov leapfrogged 10 positions to No. 24 following a season-best performance in Cincinnati. The Bulgarian upset some big names en route the semi-finals before Cilic put a stop to his dream run in the last-four stage.
