Roger Federer Comments on Rafael Nadal’s Style of Play

17-time Grand Slam champion, Roger Federer, believes that playing alongside the ‘Fab Four’ has made him a better player, especially against Rafael Nadal, whose style of play is “unlike others”.

Federer has always had a tough time playing in the opposite side of the net against Nadal; at least the statistics say so. The Swiss ace trails the head-to-head record by 10-23 against his Spanish counterpart, who needs 3 Grand Slam titles to be on par with the former.

However, Federer has managed to be on the positive side against the likes of Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray. Whilst Federer edges Djokovic 19-17, the Swiss is locked up at 11-11 against Murray in the head-to-head record.

“It’s true that the generation of Djokovic, Murray and Nadal has made me a better player, in particular Rafa has challenged me on many fronts, because the way he plays he is so unlike anyone else,” Federer told The Telegraph in an exclusive interview.

“But I wouldn’t say I needed that generation to keep me going; I am just here because I love playing the game, I love competing in a stadium against great players,” he added.

Six-time champion Federer is currently in London for the year-ending ATP World Tour Finals.
