Robin Soderling, who holds the exceptional record of being the only player to beat Rafael Nadal in the history of French Open, feels that the Spaniard won’t be starting as the favourite at this year’s tournament in Paris.

Having lost as many as five matches on his much-loved surface clay this season, Nadal has been certainly going through a rough patch in his career of late. This has raised the eyebrows of many of his fans on his odds of continuing his fortress. And Soderling is no different!

“Well I think this is the first year where he is not the No. 1 favourite,” Soderling told Sky Sports News, opining that top-ranked Serbian Novak Djokovic will be the front-runner for the title instead.

“Looking back to the start of the year or even last year, Novak played unbelievable and better than Rafa, and he even beat him in Monte Carlo,” he continued.

“It’s going to be tough, but this year I see Novak as the No. 1 favorite.”

The French Open is scheduled to commence from May 24.
