Rampant David Ferrer Downs Tomas Berdeych for Doha Title
4th seed David Ferrer saw off little resistance from 3rd-seeded Czech Tomas Berdych to clinch the ATP Qatar Open crown in Doha on Saturday.
The 10th-ranked Spaniard needed just 90 minutes to pull off a 6-4, 7-5 conquest of the big-serving Berdych in the summit clash.
“I’m very happy. I put in hard work this preseason,” a thrilled Ferrer was quoted as saying by the ATP World Tour. “It’s special winning this tournament. I was ready to play tonight’s match against Berdych – a Top 10 player.”
By the virtue of this triumph, Ferrer earns $195,000 and 250 ATP ranking points, while Berdych walks away with $102,675 and 150 ranking points.
Up next, 32-year-old Ferrer moves to Auckland for the next week’s ATP 250 Heineken Open 2015.
