14-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal is slated to pair up with fellow Spaniard Fernando Verdasco for the doubles event at the prestigious Rio Olympics 2016, as per a statement by the latter, according to Marca.

“If all goes well, I’ll play with Rafa (Nadal),” Verdasco was quoted as saying. “Let’s see what happens and if there a physical mishap through, but if all goes well, this is what we talked about.”

Verdasco, 31, has been more into the doubles since the last few years, having paired up with compatriot David Marrero to partake in many events, the highlights of which include their triumph at the World Tour Finals in 2013.

Earlier this year at the Montreal Masters, Nadal and Verdasco had partnered in the doubles event together, where they progressed to the quarter-finals before being knocked out by the top-ranked Bryan Brothers in the last-eight stage.
