Toni Nadal, the coach and uncle of Rafael Nadal, revealed that the Spanish tennis ace could partner compatriot Garbine Muguruza for the mixed doubles event at the Rio Olympics, besides competing in the men’s singles as well as the doubles division at the sport’s mega event this year.

There have been talks of the duo joining hands to represent their country from quite a while, but there hasn’t been any kind of corroboration yet. But, Uncle Toni divulged his nephew intends to join forces with Muguruza, and that the pairing could turn out to be ‘competitive’ in the draw.

“Rafael intends to play all three disciplines. We want to play with Muguruza. Maybe the team is not as strong as that of Switzerland – with Martina Hingis and Roger Federer – but can be very competitive. I think it’s a good match to win the Games,” Uncle Toni was quoted by Puntodebreak.

Although nothing has been specified over Nadal’s partner for the men’s doubles event, it has been speculated that he will team up with countryman Fernando Verdasco, with whom he has featured in quite a few matches including the Davis Cup. The twosome is 8-6 playing together.
