World No. 4 Petra Kvitova had nerves of steel as she scraped past Germany’s Angelique Kerber to help Czech Republic win its third Fed Cup title in four years at Prague on Sunday.

The fancied southpaw overcame a stiff battle from her German counterpart to cruise for a nervy 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 to help the Czechs take an unassailable 3-0 lead.

“It was an amazing match and I’m just glad I did it,” an ecstatic Kvitova was quoted as per saying by BCC Sport.

“It was up and down from the beginning of the match and I had to fight for every single point,” she continued. “Maybe I was just lucky in the end. We will celebrate now.”

Earlier, Kvitova had give the hosts an early lead by beating Andrea Petkovic in the opening rubber, before Lucie Safarova made it 2-0 by getting the better of Kerber in straight sets.

Before today’s triumph, Czech Republic had won the title in 2011 (against Russia) and 2012 (against Serbia).
