As much as she’s known for her incredible tennis skills, Serena Williams is quite famous for her unique choice of outfits. So, her appearance at the Australian Open – although worth a mention – hardly came as a surprise.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion got her campaign under way with a brutal 6-0 6-2 conquest of Tatjana Maria of Germany on Monday. And her outfit was a topic of discussion as soon as she stepped onto the court.

It wasn’t raining and the heat was scorching. Yet, out she came wearing a black raincoat and practiced wearing one. Off it came, and her green jumpsuit and fishnet stockings were on display.

Twitterati, however, had mixed reactions to it. “Oh Lord! A bad statement,” one person wrote. “As usual who ever helps Serena design her outfits. They never tell her truth about how things look on her. Not only is the color terrible so is the outfit it’s self,” another one added.

One user complimented, saying: “Amazing outfit. And I love Serena in green. Another one agreed, writing: “Serena rocks that look in those fishnet stockings and green jumpsuit!”

Meanwhile, Serena is scheduled to face former Wimbledon finalist Eugenie Bouchard of Canada in the second round on Thursday.
