Former tennis player, Mats Wilander, backed current World No. 1 Novak Djokovic to pull off a ‘Golden Slam’ this year. The term refers to an accomplishment of winning all the four Grand Slams and the gold medal at the Olympics in a calendar year.

With the Australian Open title already won, Djokovic will go into the next week’s Roland Garros as the favorite, which would also be the case in the rest of the two majors and the Olympics as well. That said, Wildander can’t be more optimistic of the Serb’s chances.

“I think he (Djokovic) will win the “Golden Slam,” the 51-year-old Wilander told Eurosport. “I was a very close spectator of Steffi Graf when she did it in 1988, that was my best year, and I think it’s unbelievable that she did it then but I think Novak can and most probably should win all five.”

Djokovic, 29, will look to pull off his maiden French Open title when the tournament begins next week, and subsist in his quest of accomplishing a ‘Golden Slam’. The Serb has only lost three off his 40 matches this year, and has won five titles including the season-opening major Down Under.
